Beginner's Guide To Using A Sewing Machine

 

Class Duration: 2 hours

Class Price: £20

Class Description:

This is a perfect introduction for those who don't know their way around a sewing machine or a refresher for those that haven't used one in a while. 

​

Areas You Will Cover:

  • Sewing machine driving test

  • How to set up and thread a sewing machine

  • Open flat seam

  • French seam

  • Stretch seam

Bunting Making

Class Duration: 2 Hours 

Class Price: £20

Class Materials: £5 (optional)

Class Description:

This is the perfect follow on from the beginners class. Reinforcing how to set up the sewing machine and mastering straight stitch, incorporated in a fun project that will add a touch of home made to your home décor.

​

Areas You Will Cover:

  • Good use of fabric when cutting out

  • Accurate sewing and reinforce seam allowance

  • Binding application

​

Class Requirements:

You will need to bring along:

  • 2-3 fat quarters (if bringing your own fabric)

  • We provide the binding

Cushion Making

​

Class Duration: 2 Hours 

Class Price: £20

Class Materials: £5 (optional)

Class Description:

Having successfully completed our beginners class or with some previous experience on using a machine- this class might be for you. Cushions add style and colour to our lives and are an excellent first project for a beginner who has  just learnt how to sew. In this fun and relaxing class you will be learning how to make a stylish cushion and insert a zip.

​

Areas You Will Cover:​

  • Cutting out fabric

  • Inserting a zip

​

Class Requirements:

You will need to bring along:

  •  90cm x 45cm of any fabric of your choice to suit your home décor (if bringing your own)

  • We provide the inner cushion pad to complete your project

Pyjama Bottoms - Basic Workshop

Class Duration: 2 Hours 

Class Price: £20

Class Description:

Making your own pyjama bottoms has its benefits - besides saving money, you can work with a soft fabric that is easy to sew and find the colour and print of your choice.

​

This is a fun class where you will master a range of sewing techniques. You can choose to make children's or adult's pyjamas

​

Areas You Will Cover:

  • Take measurements 

  • Laying and cutting out of fabric 

  • Hemming and inserting a drawstring

​

Class Requirements:

You will need to bring along:

  • 2.4m (240cm) of 115cm wide soft breathable fabric (cotton, fleece) or

  • 2m (200cm) of 140cm wide soft breathable fabric (cotton, fleece)

  • 1 1/2m (150cm) of fabric tape for making the drawstring

Peg Bag Making

 

Class Duration: 2 Hours

Class Price: £20

Class Materials: £5 (optional)

Class Description:

A peg bag is the perfect way to learn gathers and binding whilst creating a useful product for your home.

​

If you don't use pegs on your washing line then it also doubles up as a holder for small items or even helpful storage for some of those pairs of shoes you don't wear everyday.

​

  • Making your own pattern

  • Gathers

  • Bias binding

​

Class Requirements:

You will need to bring along:

  • 1 1/2m (150cm) of any fabric of your choice (if bringing your own)

Reversible Bag Making

​

Class Duration: 2 Hours 

Class Price: £20

Class Materials: £5 (optional)

Class Description:

For those of you that don't like paying the carrier bag charge or if your just 'bag mad' then this project is for you. Come along and learn how to make you own stylish reversible bag.

​

Areas You Will Cover:

  • Cutting out fabric​

  • Gathers

​

Class Requirements:

You will need to bring along:

  • 1/2m (50cm) Two complementary fabrics of your choice   (if bringing your own) 

Dress Making Workshop - Intermediate Level

​

Class Duration: 3 classes of 2 hours 

Class Price: £20 Per Class

​

Class Description:

This three lesson dressmaking course is designed for those who are ready to move to a more tailored garment using facings, zips and learning how to set sleeves.

​

Areas You Will Cover:

  • Take measurements â€‹

  • Constructing darts

  • Understanding patterns - what do the symbols mean?

  • Reading/Laying/Cutting out of pattern and fabrics

  • How to insert a zip

  • Gathering

  • Top stitching

​

Class Requirements:

You will need to bring along:

  • A pattern of your choice 

  • The required amount of fabric according to your pattern

  • Interfacing if required

  • The correct size zip necessary to complete the garment

  • Matching thread is optional
